Meditation Through a Jewish Lens with Rabbi Daniel Liben Sun, Aug 13, 2017 at 7:00 pm - 8:15 pm
Embodied spiritual practices are found in virtually all religious traditions. Jews have practiced meditation and chanting, for example, since the Bible. Join us for a session of meditation through a Jewish lens, during which we will use the tools of Mindfulness and body awareness as they emerge through Jewish sources.

Andrew will begin with a short 10 minute all-levels yoga warm up before introducing Rabbi Liben.

Rabbi Daniel Liben is the spiritual leader of Temple Israel in Natick (www.tiofnatick.org).

The event is FREE.

About Rabbi Daniel Liben:
Rabbi Daniel Liben was ordained by the Jewish Theological Seminary in 1983, and became the spiritual leader of Temple Israel of Natick, Massachusetts, in 1991. He is a past president of the Massachusetts Board of Rabbis, and of the New England Region Rabbinical Assembly. After completing the Institute for Jewish Spirituality’s (IJS) two-year program for Rabbis, Dan has made the exploration of prayer as a spiritual practice a cornerstone of his Rabbinic work.

Dan spent several years exploring mindfulness at Elat Chayyim, where his teachers were Sylvia Boorstein, Jeff Roth, Sheila Weinberg and Norman Fisher. He subsequently completed IJS’s Jewish Meditation Teacher Training Program (1 and 3), and taught meditation to Rabbis for the Institute for two years.

Send a love letter to your belly! In yoga our bellies are not only the home of our digestive fire, but they are the storehouse of our energy. We will gently release tension in your abdomen through breathwork and psoas release work. Instead of tightening our surface abdominal muscles we will find and activate the deeper postural muscles that help hold us upright. This will help clear energetic pathways, promote better digestion, and clarify our intentions. All of this work makes space for compassion, care and creativity.

All levels are welcome including those new to yoga. Please let Carrie know if you have any injuries or chronic conditions that may impact your practice.

Tap into the creative power embodied in your hips. This workshop concentrates on enhancing the watery mobility and the potential for free movement in the relationship between your thigh bone and your hip socket. At the same time, we will work on maintaining stability so that you find your freedom from a secure base.

Hips are one of the many areas of the body that don't respond well to forceful movement so we will take our time with slow warm up actions that will give us the time to develop a deep appreciation for the really important structure of our hips. Tap into the wellspring of generative energy and find or reawaken your awareness of this part of your body. Emerge with happier hips!
